The British Times Higher Education published its annual World University Rankings 2023. It includes 11 Ukrainian institutions of higher education (out of 28 that provided data for participation).
Lviv Polytechnic National University, which has been highly rated for seven years in a row, just like last year, was included in the group of 601–800 best universities in the world and is one of only two universities of Ukraine that made it into the top 1000 world institutions of higher education.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is one of the three largest international university rankings, along with the Shanghai ARWU and the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). In total, the World University Rankings 2023 included 1,799 universities from 104 countries (last year – 1,662 from 99 countries).
The World University Rankings 2023 is led by institutions from the USA and Great Britain: the first place belongs to the University of Oxford (Great Britain); second place – to Harvard University (USA); the third place is shared by Cambridge (Great Britain) and Stanford (USA) Universities. Moreover, universities from these two countries fill the entire top 10 of the rankings.
The university’s place in the rankings is determined by 13 criteria in five main areas of evaluation: teaching (30%, the learning environment), research (30%, volume, income and reputation), citations (30%, research influence), international outlook (7.5 %, staff, students and research), and industry income (2.5%, knowledge transfer).
The peculiarity of the rankings is the significant impact of reputation indicators. 33% (15% for teaching and 18% for research) of the final score is determined by how the participants of the international survey of researchers and academics evaluated the institution of higher education.
