At the invitation of the Ukrainian community in Croatia, representatives of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Oksana Trumko (Candidate of Philological Sciences, Research Fellow) and Nazar Danchyshyn (Candidate of Philological Sciences, Leading Philologist) took part in events dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the resettlement of Ukrainians to this country. The organizer of the 14th Central Manifestation of Culture of Ukrainians in Croatia was the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Society «Kobzar» in Zagreb (chairman – Slavko Burda).
On the occasion of the event, new (third and fourth in number) books in the series «Ukrainians of Croatia: materials and documents» were published. The presentation of these publications took place at the Zagreb City Library on October 7 with the participation of Vasyl Kyrylych, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Croatia, and officials of the Croatian government. It is worth noting that the co-authors of one of the materials for the collection are Iryna Kliuchkovska, Head of IECDR, and IECDR philologists Oksana Trumko and Nazar Danchyshyn. At the event, employees of the Institute, who arrived in the Croatian capital, delivered welcome speeches.
The International Scientific Conference «120th Anniversary of the Resettlement of Ukrainians to Croatia» took place on October 8. Most of its delegates were present in the hall of the Zagreb City Library, while some joined online. Oksana Trumko and Nazar Danchyshyn, along with a number of other researchers, made their reports at the event. Lvivites outlined the history of cooperation between IECDR and Ukrainians in Croatia in the educational, cultural and humanitarian aspects. In addition, the speakers presented current IECDR projects (mainly on teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language and partnership with world Ukrainians), as well as presented the organizers with a two-volume textbook «The Key to Ukraine: Cities and People» created at the Institute.
On October 9, the celebrations took place in front of a monument to Taras Shevchenko in Zagreb, erected due to the efforts of the local Ukrainian community. Those present laid flowers at the monument to Kobzar. Slavko Burda, Ambassador Vasyl Kyrylych and representatives of the Zagreb city authorities made welcome speeches. Afterwards, the participants read Shevchenko’s poems (in particular, Nazar Danchyshyn from IECDR recited poetry from the series «In the Casemate»), and listened to songs to Kobzar’s poetry performed by Violetta Dutchak, Doctor of Arts.
On October 10, the celebrations were held in Križevci, one of the centers of the Ukrainian community in Croatia. The participants attended the Divine Liturgy with the participation of the head of the Pastoral and Migration Department of the UGCC, Bishop Stepan Sus, after which they enjoyed the arts and culture program.
During their visit to Zagreb, IECDR employees established new relationships with representatives of educational and scientific institutions (including the Department of Ukrainian Language and Literature at the University of Zagreb, the Universities of Novi Sad, Palermo, etc.), diplomatic missions and the local Ukrainian community. The Institute expresses its gratitude for the invitation and impeccable organization of the 14th Central Manifestation of the Culture of Ukrainians in Croatia to the local Ukrainian community and, most of all, to Slavko Burda.
