Elsevier has released an updated database for 2024 that ranks the world’s most influential scientists using standardized scientometric indicators.
According to the results of the analysis, five scientists from Lviv Polytechnic National University entered the prestigious list of the world’s top 2% most cited researchers.
Ranking in the Elsevier database is based on two categories.
- Career-long impact covers a scientist’s research activity from the beginning of their career up to the end of 2024. In this category, three representatives of Lviv Polytechnic were ranked among the world’s top 2%: Nataliia Shakhovska, Rector of Lviv Polytechnic, Vasyl Lytvyn, Deputy Head of the Department of Information Systems and Networks, the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, and Viktoriia Vysotska, Associate Professor at the same department.
- Recent year impact refers to the citation ranking of publications for the 2024 calendar year only. In this category, three Lviv Polytechnic scientists confirmed their significant influence: Ivan Izonin, Associate Professor at the Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems, Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies; Bohdan Vasyliv, Senior Researcher at the Department of Strength of Materials and Structural Mechanics, the Institute of Civil Engineering, Infrastructure and Life Safety; and Viktoriia Vysotska, Associate Professor at the Department of Information Systems and Networks, the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies.
Special recognition goes to Viktoriia Vysotska, who entered the TOP-2% ranking in both categories – career-long and single recent year – demonstrating the consistently high impact of her scientific research.
The study is carried out by a team of Stanford University scientists using data from the Scopus database. The ranking is based on a composite indicator (c-score) calculated from six citation metrics:
- Total citations (NC)
- H-index (H)
- Hm-index (H-index adjusted for the number of authors)
- Citations to single-author papers (NCS)
- Citations to single or first-author papers (NCSF)
- Citations to single, first, or last-author papers (NCSFL)
Selection Criteria
- Top 100,000 Scientists: Scholars are ranked based on their c-score, including and excluding self-citations.
- 2% Percentile: Scientists in the top 2% of their sub-field are also included.
Field and Sub-field Classification Researchers are categorized into 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields based on the standard Science-Metrix classification.
