On 28–30 May 2026, the First International Scientific and Practical Conference “Engineering of Computer and Electronic Systems” (ECES-2026) took place in Ivano-Frankivsk (Mykulychyn). As part of the conference, representatives of Lviv Polytechnic National University held the presentation event “Laser Technologies and Photonics in Ukraine: From Science to Innovation” under the international project LASER-PRO (Horizon Europe, Project 101186838).
The ECES-2026 conference was organized by Vasyl Stefanyk Carpathian National University with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The event brought together a wide range of scientists, engineers, and researchers from across the country.
The presentation was opened by the LASER-PRO project coordinator from Lviv Polytechnic, Professor of the Department of Applied Physics and Nanomaterials Science at the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Fundamental Sciences, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Anatoliy Andrushchak. In his opening remarks, he outlined the goals and objectives of the project in the context of advancing laser technologies and photonics in Ukraine.
Professor of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies and Electronic Engineering, Marian Kyryk, gave a detailed account of the aims of the Excellent Laser Technologies for the Sustainable Prosperity of Europe initiative and its significance for the sustainable development of the European area, focusing on its strategic goals, partners, and expected outcomes for Ukrainian academic and business institutions.
The Head of the Department of Intellectual Property Protection and Technology Transfer at Lviv Polytechnic, Professor Ivan Demydov, delivered the report “Laser Technologies in Ukraine – 2025: The Sectoral Overview of Ukrainian Facilities.” He presented a sectoral overview of the state of laser technologies in Ukraine and announced the LASER-PRO Open Call competition – a financial support instrument for companies implementing advanced laser innovations.
The presentation event sparked lively interest among the conference participants. The broad audience confirmed the relevance of laser technologies and photonics as one of the priority areas of Ukraine’s scientific and technological development.
Participants raised numerous questions regarding opportunities to take part in the LASER-PRO Open Call, the terms of financial support for innovative projects, and the prospects of involving Ukrainian institutions in the international laser ecosystem. Particular interest was drawn to the sectoral overview of the state of laser technologies in Ukraine presented by Ivan Demydov – as a timely assessment of the industry’s potential and the challenges it faces today.
As a result of the event, a circle of interested stakeholders was formed – potential contributors to the further development of a strategic roadmap for laser technologies in Ukraine. Participants expressed their readiness to cooperate within the LASER-PRO project and supported the idea of restoring a national innovation ecosystem for laser technologies.
The LASER-PRO project team extends its gratitude to the ECES-2026 organizing committee, to all speakers, and to the event participants for the constructive dialogue and sincere interest in joint work.
