Financial education today and tomorrow: the Department of Finance is constantly improving educational programs

In order to improve the quality of education for students of higher education, the Department of Finance, the Institute of Economics and Management, Lviv Polytechnic, is constantly improving educational programs for training professionals in the field of public, international and business finance.

Educational programs for postgraduates’, master's and bachelor's students majoring in Finance, Banking and Insurance, the Department of Finance, the Institute of Economics and Management, are focused on the training of highly qualified managers, innovators, analysts and scientists of the new generation who can make scientifically based financial decisions, generate original and effective ideas for building financial strategies in a dynamic environment, think innovatively and act in an organized manner in the field of finance, banking and insurance.

Regarding these issues, there was a meeting of discussion club participants on the topic "Financial education: today and tomorrow". Among the participants of the event there were representatives of JSC "Ukrsibbank", JSC "Lviv", group of companies "Gradevent", "LVZ", "Krio-Term", "Automatic Service", Sense bank, SC "Weltliner", Nestle, JSC RadaBank, JSC "OxiBank", JSC "AcordBank", LLC "Lvivpidshypnyk", JSC "Oshchadbank", SC "Dnister", LLC "Development company "Moya Kraina", "Royal LTD", Sense Hub Lviv, "Nova Pay", Podorozhnyk pharmacy chain, SOGOR Kitchen Salon, Lvivgaz JSC, Dobra Voda PJSC, Ukrgasbank JSC, PrivatBank JSC, PricewaterhouseCoopers and other companies.

In accordance with their professional standards of development, the stakeholders suggested that the guarantors and members of the working groups of the educational programs take into account the recommendations regarding the development of finance, banking and insurance.

Before the beginning of the meeting, the participants were asked to complete a questionnaire, made by Pavlo Horyslavets, Associate Professor at the Department of Finance, regarding the assessment of prospects for the development of financial education. Among the main issues there were:

  • assessment of the level of competences of modern graduates - economists/financiers;
  • assessment of the level of demand for graduates' competencies;
  • the optimal level of business involvement in the training and advanced training of economists/financiers;
  • in which organizational formats can a company participate in the training of financiers?
  • how will the requirements for finance graduates change in 5-10 years?

and other.

For the respondents (22 people), the most important issues are:

  • 73% – theoretical knowledge by profession;
  • 82% – use of information technologies;
  • 73% – ability to work in a team;
  • 77% – responsibility for the results of their work;
  • 64% – the ability to solve problems in modern conditions;

and other.

We are sure that the results of the survey and the discussion of the relevant topic will enable the guarantors, business representatives, teachers and students of higher education to effectively integrate intellectual capital into the business sphere, to prepare high-quality personnel for business and authorities in order to achieve the development strategy of our country.
