On May 22–26, 2023, the internship of teachers of the Department of Technology of Biologically Active Substances, Pharmacy and Biotechnology (TBASPB) of the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies of the Lviv Polytechnic took place at the University of Opole (Opole, Poland).
During the visit to the Institute of Chemistry of the Polish University, the scientific and pedagogical staff of the Department of TBASPB: Vira Lubenets – DSc(Chem.), Professor, Head of Department of TBASPB, Professor Victoria Havryliak and Associate Professors Iryna Gubytska, Lilia Bolibrukh, Diana Baranovich and Veronika Chervetsova – met with the Director of the Institute Professor Piotr Wieczorek and the Professor of the Department of Physical Chemistry and Molecular Modeling Teobald Kupka, who familiarized the attendees with the institute’s laboratories and equipment.
During the meetings, the issue of implementation of joint educational and scientific projects, the possibility of conducting scientific research by the department’s employees and prospects for further cooperation were also discussed. In addition, the teachers of the department of TBASPB took part in conducting scientific research on the determination of the structure of compounds of synthetic and natural origin.
A pleasant bonus as part of the scientific internship at the University of Opole for Vera Lubenets, Iryna Gubytska, Viktoria Gavryliak, as well as for the assistant professor of the TBASPB department Roksolana Konechna was the invitation of the organizer and participation on May 23–24 in the annual PHARM Connect Congress 2023, which united the world’s leading manufacturers pharmaceutical products, distributors and scientists.
As part of the congress, representatives of Lviv Polytechnic had the opportunity to visit with a tour the SANDOZ pharmaceutical enterprise of the NOVARTIS company, which is a transnational pharmaceutical corporation, the second largest in the world, as well as the second largest producer of pharmaceuticals in terms of market share in Europe.
During the excursion, the teachers of the TBASPB department got acquainted with the production lines of tableting and packaging of pharmaceuticals, as well as with product quality control in accordance with GMP requirements.
On the first day of the PHARM Connect Congress 2023, Dr. Christoph Herwig, Professor of Biochemical Engineering at the Vienna University of Technology, gave an introductory lecture on the use of information technology to improve the life cycle of a pharmaceutical product. Also interesting and informative was the case presentation by Dr. Moritz Perscheid, Senior CMC Scientist at LGC Standards, on practical aspects of strategy building, outsourcing and risk management in pharmaceutical production.
Special attention of the congress participants was focused on the speech of the director of the ARTERIUM LTD (Kyiv) Serhii Sur, who shared his experience of working during the full-scale war in Ukraine and emphasized the challenges facing pharmacists today and in the near future. Congress participants were shocked and moved by the information about the scale of the destruction, the loss of supply chains of raw materials and products, and, most painfully, about the loss of employees. The conclusion of the report was accompanied by applause from the hall and words of support for Ukraine.
As part of the congress, there was an exhibition where the latest developments of the world’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers were shown. Particular attention was drawn to the stand of the company Cargo – partner, which is engaged in the distribution of pharmaceutical products, which is especially relevant, since the employees of the department of TBASPB are currently working on the implementation of the Jean Monnet GoodPharma project, which is related to familiarization and implementation of European norms for the distribution of medicinal products and their logistics in domestic practice.
