The Third World Forum of Ukrainian Studies Saturday and Sunday Schools

The International Institute for Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations invites you to the Third World Forum of Ukrainian Saturday and Sunday Schools, which will take place at Lviv Polytechnic National University on August 21–23, 2024.

This is an event that aims to unite everyone who cares about the Ukrainian language and Ukrainian studies education in the world. It is a communication platform that aims to find answers to the challenges faced by the Ukrainian educational community abroad due to the full-scale war and mass emigration of Ukrainians.

This event is organized for educators from Ukraine and abroad, practitioners and scholars, representatives of the government and Ukrainian cultural centers abroad, public figures, and anyone interested in Ukrainian education abroad.

This year’s Forum is dedicated to the memory of Anna Kisil and Stefan Romaniw, prominent figures of the Ukrainian movement abroad whose life and tireless work were dedicated to Ukraine.

Over 200 people from 28 countries registered to participate in the event.

Invited guests at the event will be:

  • Oksen Lisovyi – Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine);
  • Mariana Betsa – Ambassador-at-Large for Global Ukrainian Community, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine);
  • Andriy Shevchenko – Head of the UWC Mission to Ukraine, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Canada in 2015–2021, (Kyiv, Ukraine);
  • Oksana Yurynets – Doctor of Economics, Professor at Lviv Polytechnic National University, Member of Parliament of Ukraine of 8th convocation, Head of the Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (Lviv, Ukraine);
  • Alim Aliyev – Deputy Director General of the Ukrainian Institute, co-founder of the NGOs Crimea SOS and Crimean House, journalist (Kyiv, Ukraine);
  • Taras Kremin – Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language (Kyiv, Ukraine);
  • Michael Moser – Doctor of Philology, Professor of Linguistics at the Institute for Slavic Studies, the University of Vienna, President of the International Association of Ukrainian Studies, (Vienna, Austria);
  • Ulana Plawuszczak Pidzamecky – Doctor of Education, Research Fellow at the Ontario Tech University (Toronto, Canada);
  • Oksana Wynnyckyj-Yusypovych – PhD, Chair of the UWC’s International Educational Coordinating Council (IECC) in 2008–2018, lecturer, Honorary Consul of Canada to Ukraine (Lviv, Ukraine).

Special guests of the Forum:

  • Orysia Demska, Head of the National Commission on State Language Standards in 2020–2022, Professor at the National Academy of the Security Service of Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine);
  • Liubov Lubchyk, Chair of the UWC’s International Educational Coordinating Council (IECC) (Paris, France).

The Forum’s program includes:

  • 8th International Scientific and Practical Conference «Ukrainian Language in the World» (panel discussions, special guest speech, round tables);
  • creative idea labs;
  • world cafes and presentations.

The event will focus on:

  • decolonization of Ukrainian education abroad;
  • teaching of Ukrainian studies cycle;
  • new challenges facing Ukrainian education abroad;
  • the Ukrainian language in the world today;
  • a vision of the future of the Ukrainian language in the world.
