The first part of the presentation of the Pfister Art: Berezhany Heritage project took place with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation on November 3, 2023.
Lviv – Berezhany: these cities have been connected by many events and historical figures throughout history. The figure and activity of the famous sculptor Johann Pfister became a very significant point: thanks to this artist, the page of the almost 400 year-old sculpture center was inscribed in the history of Berezhany.
The event took place in the scientific and artistic atmosphere of the Julian Zachariewicz hall, Lviv Polytechnic National University. This fact is very symbolic, as according to Oleh Rybchynskyi, a professor at the Department of Architecture and Сonservation, Julian Zachariewicz is the founder and leader of the Lviv architecture school of the 1870s–1890s. He was also an enthusiast of museum affairs, a researcher of historical and cultural monuments of Galicia, a restorer, an art theorist, social and political figure, and most importantly – the first discoverer of the artistic heritage of Johann Pfister.
The event was moderated by Olena Luhova, head of the Reserve’s Research and Museum Department, who presented the idea and main tasks of the project.
The Pfister Art: Berezhany Heritage project is dedicated to the 450th anniversary of the artist’s birthday. In his memory the State Historical and Architectural Reserve in Berezhany organized and held a presentation of Bohdan Tykhyi’s book «Berezhany is a City of Monuments. Center of Artistic Tradition»; and the International Scientific Conference «The Artistic Heritage of Johann Pfister: Intercultural Dialogue». A tourist route «The Artistic Heritage of Johann Pfister in the Berezhany Region» was presented to the Tourism Day. The museum exposition «The legacy of the sculptor Johann Pfister in the Berezhany Castle» in the western building of the Sinyavsky Castle complex has been updated.
Afterwards there will be a presentation of the implementation of the Pfister Art: Berezhany Heritage project in Berezhany Castle – the heart of the artistic heritage of Johann Pfister.
