According to the results of the competition, Vasyl Petryk, the architect and lecturer at the Institute of Architecture and Design, Lviv Polytechnic, became the Head of the Division of Cultural Heritage Protection, the Department of Architecture and Urban Development, Lviv Regional State Administration.

Vasyl Petryk, Candidate of Architecture, Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture and Restoration, Lviv Polytechnic, was born in Drohobych. He worked as a researcher in the Regional Research Center «Rescue Archaeological Service», and since 2003 – he has been the chief architect of the State Historical and Cultural Reserve in Belz. He was engaged in project and research activities.

I worked with historical and urban-planning documentation and in the field of practical restoration of monuments, architectural and archeological researches. I have been engaged in monument protection activities for many years. I am a member of the Ukrainian Association for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture, the Ukrainian National Committee ICOMOS, and have a practical experience in defending monuments. There were victories, but there were also defeats. Therefore, I understand the problems in the system of cultural heritage of Ukraine. We face a lot of challenges now. We must, in fact, rebuild the system, in accordance with the requirements of administrative and territorial reform. I hope that I will be able, if not to change this difficult situation, then at least to move it in a positive direction, says Vasyl Petryk.

He is convinced that the protection of monuments is like a war against time and indifference. We will be able to win it only together, uniting state and administrative structures, professional and public environments around one goal.
