On June 8, the main building of Lviv Polytechnic hosted a round table presentation of the book «Respect Yourself. Mykola Maksymovych: Rector of Two Lviv Universities» by well-known journalist Tetiana Verheles and Doctor of Technical Sciences Volodymyr Maksymovych.

Lots of distinguished people, including Rector of Lviv Polytechnic National University Yurii Bobalo and Rector of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv Volodymyr Melnyk attended the event.

The event was moderated by Iryna Kliuchkovska, Director of the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, who noted that the book about Mykola Maksymovych was the fourth in a series of memoirs about Soviet-era Polytechnic Rectors.

«This book is dedicated to Mykola Maksymovych, a Ukrainian scientist in the field of electrical engineering and one of the leaders in the organization of post-war higher education in the Lviv region. He was Rector of Lviv Polytechnic for ten years and eighteen – Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Ukrainian SSR, Member of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR of the 8th-10th convocations, member of the Ukrainian delegation to the UN General Assembly – he was a prominent person of his time. His life path is considered in the book from different angles. In the biography there are historical excursions, associative parallels, archival touches, which create a picture of what had already departed, but left a mark, got continuation and a new development», said Iryna Kliuchkovska.

Rector of Lviv Polytechnic Yurii Bobalo stressed in his speech that the peculiarity of this book is that it allows us to easily immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of Polytechnic in the middle of the XX century.

«The reputation of the University is largely the result of the long journey of all those who studied, taught and created science here. It is the achievements of the last generation of all Polytechnicians. The foundation of Lviv Polytechnic has always been held by three whales: patriotism, professionalism and the desire for change. The history of Lviv Polytechnic is largely the biography of its leaders – Rectors. Each of them is a separate period. But in all aspects of the development of our University, all its leaders had an important feature – an understanding of what is the high spirit of Lviv Polytechnic. Mykola Maksymovych, an outstanding manager in the field of education, also remembered this. Mathematical skills, managerial talent, leadership skills and a deep understanding of the complex mechanism of education – these are the aspects of Mykola Maksymovych’s activities. After all, it is Maksimovych’s idea to automate and scrupulously build a structure for managing all areas and processes in universities and institutes. He was an outstanding organizer of higher education, a talented scientist and educator of young people, who made a lot of efforts to train highly qualified specialists and to create conditions for scientific research», said Yurii Bobalo.
