The Winter International School «European experience of strategic planning of territorial development taking into account ecosystem services for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine» (30 hours) completed its work in the Polytechnic-2 Recreational Camp of Lviv Polytechnic National University at the Slavske ski resort, Lviv region.
The event took place within the framework of the implementation of the Erasmus+ project, Jean Monnet Module «Concept of Ecosystem Services: European Experience» (ЕЕ4CES) and European studies «Ecosystem Services: European Experience» for the participants of the 4th International Scientific Symposium «Sustainable Development – State and Prospects». The aim of the Winter International School was to form among the symposium participants a set of knowledge on issues of European experience in implementing the concept of ecosystem services, which are particularly important and useful for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine.
In the conditions of war, it is necessary to review the established approaches to solving acute socio-economic, humanitarian, security and environmental problems of the development of the state at all levels of the management hierarchy, including the strategic planning of the development of territories and communities. European countries implemented their own territorial development strategies, taking into account the provision of ecosystem services. These strategies involve promoting sustainable land use practices, conservation and restoration of ecosystems.
Failure to take into account the concept of ecosystem services when making economic decisions is an obstacle to the sustainable development of the state and creates a threat to the ecological safety and well-being of people.
