This week, the Spring International Language School (NMT-2024 – Ukrainian language) started working on the initiative of the Department of Ukrainian Language, the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ukraine, the St. Mary’s Ukrainian School, London, and the Association of Ukrainian Teachers in Great Britain

Cooperation with Ukrainian colleagues in Britain began as early as March 2022 – from the first days of the Russian invasion – from the moment the first dozens of students from Ukraine moved to England, after being forced to leave their native homes due to the war. At that time Inna Hryhorovych, Director of the St. Mary’s Ukrainian School in London, and her team of teachers (business manager Orysia Novetska, deputy head of the School – Tetiana Vitvitska, Liudmyla Rotko, Lesia Horchyn, and Natalia Kaplun) understood that the escalation of war in Ukraine will lead to a daily increase in the number of students from Ukraine who will need to continue their education far from home. During March-June 2022, approximately 800 students of all ages came to the St. Mary’s School in London. At that time, there were many urgent needs and challenges that the team of the Ukrainian School had to successfully overcome step by step. The educational process of immigrant children in Britain was effectively launched, including the organization of preparing students for final exams.

The participants of the Spring International Language School (NMT-2024 – Ukrainian language) are high school students in Britain who came there from Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Lviv, Ternopil, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Rivne, and Ivano-Frankivsk. Each of the participants has different needs, but the organizers hope that the expectations to improve their level of the Ukrainian language, to prepare well for the NMT, to become more confident about taking the exam, to become familiar with the program questions of the language test, to improve their knowledge of various sections of the language will come true.

Thus, the organizers wish you successful work at the Spring International Language School, as well as to have an exciting journey into the world of our Ukrainian language.

Let us remind you that the nine-week School will last from February 6 to April 8, 2024 and will be held free of charge every Tuesday online on the Zoom platform at 17:00.

Myroslava Hnatiuk (myroslava.v.hnatiuk@lpnu.ua), Associate Professor at the Department of Ukrainian Language, is responsible for the International Language School.
