During the quarantine period the Department of Photonics, Institute of Telecommunications, Radioelectronics and Electronic Engineering, Lviv Polytechnic, for the first time conducted an online laboratory lesson on Mechatronics and Robotics. The problem of working with «iron» which is not in the hands of students was solved due to the cooperation of Lviv Polytechnic National University and the IT company Global Logic.
This semester began as usual and in the University innovation laboratory students got acquainted with the first Ukrainian Embedded Starter Kit – a training system for designing robots and smart devices, the Internet of Things and embedded systems. Due to the quarantine, it became impossible to visit the laboratory, but it was necessary to implement the study program. At the Department of Photonics this controversy was resolved on the basis of modern means of communication and again with the support of our partners: due to an agreement on dual education with Global Logic the Embedded Starter Kit is available at the Department of Photonics.
Thus, a laboratory lesson on «Measurement of temperature using a precision temperature sensor LM335Z» (the course «Mechatronics and Robotics»), conducted by Associate Professor V. Tataryn in the «presence» of academic staff of the Department, confirmed the possibility and fruitfulness of this approach. Academic staff of the Department shared their experience of conducting online laboratory and practical classes in other disciplines using Zemax and Comsol platforms.
