In Lviv, the Ukrainian Union of Disabled Persons – USI started the implementation of two socio-cultural projects that won the competition of the Division of Social Protection, Lviv City Council. These are Meet Paddington and Ukrainian Films with Audio Description. The authors of the projects organized their work remotely. Oksana Potymko, Head of Resource Center for Educational Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities, Lviv Polytechnic National University, adviser to the mayor of Lviv told us more about them:
– The aim of both projects is to adapt three feature films by creating audio description – form of narration used to provide information surrounding key visual elements for the benefit of blind and visually impaired consumers. The films are «Paddington», «Pekelna khoruhva» and «The Flight of the Golden Fly». In addition, within the Meet Paddington project, books about the adventures of Paddington Bear will be printed in Braille. All books are to be handed over to Lviv Children’s Libraries and a special school for blind children. Thus, soon Ukrainian blind and visually impaired persons will «watch» wonderful films, some of which were released only a few months ago.
The organization has already prepared and recorded audio description for the film Paddington. Now they are creating a commentary to the film «Pekelna khoruhva» based on Sashko Lirnyk fairytale. And next week, they plan to start studio work on recording the audio description.
