On 19 August, a meeting with a delegation from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) took place at Lviv Polytechnic National University. The visit by representatives of one of the world's leading scientific institutions was aimed at establishing cooperation with our university, learning about its achievements and discussing opportunities for supporting educational and research projects.
The American delegation included Dr. Vaughan Turekian, Executive Director of the NASEM Department of Policy and Global Affairs, Cathleen Ann Campbell, former President and CEO of CRDF Global, Chair of the RESET Ukraine Action Group and Honorary Member of the Board of the Science and Innovation Fund for Ukraine, Dr. Franklin Carrero-Martinez, Senior Director for Global Sustainability and Development, Science and Technology for Sustainable Development, and Yulia Bezvershenko, Senior Programme Manager at the Department of Policy and Global Affairs.
The following representatives of Lviv Polytechnic participated in the meeting: Rector Nataliia Shakhovska, Vice-Rector for International Affairs Oleh Karyi, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Student Development Mykola Lohoida, Director of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologes Oleh Matviikiv, and Director of the SID CITY Science Park Nazarii Podolchak, Associate Professor at the Department of Applied Physics and Nanomaterials Science, Institute of Applied Mathematics and Fundamental Sciences, Yaroslav Hnilinsky.
During the meeting, the key areas of Lviv Polytechnic’s activities, the development of its innovative infrastructure, as well as the challenges facing the Ukrainian higher education system today were discussed. The American guests learned about the university's latest scientific achievements and its role in international research programmes.
Particular attention was paid to attracting American support for Ukrainian educational and scientific initiatives, particularly in the field of start-up development, innovative ecosystems and academic mobility programmes.
Following the visit, the parties agreed to prepare proposals for joint projects that will promote the integration of Ukrainian science into the global arena.
Nazarii Podolchak, Director of the SID CITY Science Park, presented the guests with projects and start-ups carried out at Lviv Polytechnic in cooperation with its partners, showed them the laboratories and discussed the possibility of supporting the development of Lviv Polytechnic‘s innovative ecosystem.
In the future, Lviv Polytechnic and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine of the United States plan to sign a cooperation agreement, which will form the basis for long-term partnerships and the implementation of joint international projects.
