On 24 September, 2025, Lviv Polytechnic hosted the opening of the exhibition «100th Anniversary of the Engine Room». Attendees heard a presentation by Tetiana Dyba, Director of the University History Museum, who traced the history of this unique place – from its earliest concepts and architectural designs to contemporary plans for its revival.
The history of the Engine Room stands as a testament to the perseverance and ingenuity of engineering thought. The idea for its construction emerged in the early 20th century, survived the trials of war and crisis, and was ultimately realized through the collaborative efforts of architects, engineers and philanthropists. The vision of creating a space where students could not only attend lectures but also work with equipment was inspired by Tadeusz Fiedler, Professor of the theory of thermal engineering. The exhibition features projects from the early 20th century, including drawings by Bohdan Stefanowski (1913), Witold Minkiewicz and Adam Kuryllo (1924).
— The exhibition showcases the century-long history of the Engine Room and the construction of the academic building. It presents a chronology of projects, allowing visitors to trace the path from the initial idea to the implementation of the latest technical solutions in the building’s design and equipment. The exhibition aims to raise awareness of this unique and authentic space. We have a heritage that is important not only to preserve but also to enrich with new meaning. Today, you can visit the Engine Room to explore its architecture and technical exhibits, informs Tetiana Dyba.
In the future, the exhibition will be held in the Machine Room at the address: 5 Ustyianovycha St.
