From March 11 to 14, 2019, Connie Snider from Saskatoon Resource Centre, Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, Canada, was the guest of Lviv Polytechnic National University. The visit was organized jointly by International «Integration» Center for Professional Partnerships and community organization Institute for Medical and Social Initiatives «Leader» with the assistance of our partner from Canada – Dr. Maureen Flaherty, Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies, Executive Director at the Center for Ukrainian Canadian Studies at the University of Manitoba.
Within a visit, there was held an international seminar on Understanding Dementia and Communication, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Reforming Social Services – Canada-Ukraine project (1999–2003), conducted on the basis of Lviv Polytechnic National University with the financial support of Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The event was attended by staff members of «Integration» center, lecturers and students of the Department of Sociology and Social Work, specialists in the field of mental health, practitioners and community representatives. According to the results of the international seminar, the participants were awarded certificates, signed by the rector of Lviv Polytechnic.
In collaboration with the Canadian partners and the public sector, there were established a common vision and future prospects for the creation of the coordination and advisory service Community Health Clinic at Lviv Polytechnic for the development of a healthy community in general and the improvement of the specialists training for their future professional activities in the field of social services for people with dementia in particular.
