On July 1, 2021, the International Institute of Education, Culture and Diaspora Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University, hosted a meeting of the Institute’s team with Dzvinka Kachur, President of the Ukrainian Association in South Africa, researcher at Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, partner of IECDR and the initiator of the joint study «Ukrainians of the Republic of South Africa: society, identity and future» (2019). Despite the IECDR’s cooperation with the Ukrainian Association in South Africa and with Dzvinka Kachur, this was the first communication offline.
At the meeting the parties discussed the directions of continuation and development of further cooperation and outlined plans for the future. These included joint events with the involvement of Ukrainian communities on the African continent, continuing cooperation in research, involving IECDR researchers in the formation of an international research platform to study migration processes from Central and Eastern Europe to South Africa, as well as opportunities for launching wider cooperation between Lviv Polytechnic and Stellenbosch University.
Taking this opportunity, the Institute handed over textbooks on the study of the Ukrainian language as a foreign language, created by IECDR, for Ukrainian schools in South Africa.
