Every year, faculty of the Department of Ukrainian Language, the Institute of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Lviv Polytechnic, holds the university stage of Petro Yatsyk International Ukrainian Language Competition and Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literature Competition for Pupils and Students, which unites students who love their native language. The winners of the university stage often take places in the regional and all-Ukrainian stages.

This year, students of Lviv Polytechnic National University also became the winners of the regional stage of the 14th Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literary Competition for Pupils and Students and the 24th Petro Yatsyk International Ukrainian Language Competition. On this occasion, the Department of Education and Science, Lviv Regional Military Administration, awarded the students and their teachers. Yuriy Bobalo, Rector of Lviv Polytechnic, presented them with awards at the meeting of the University Academic Board on January 30, 2024.

Halyna Horodylovska, Assistant Professor at the Department of Ukrainian Language, says that Lviv Polytechnic students have repeatedly won prizes in the university stage of Petro Yatsyk and Taras Shevchenko International Ukrainian Language Competition. Undoubtedly, the main component of students’ success is thorough preparation, which was conducted by their teachers.

– Petro Yatsyk International Ukrainian Language Competition, which became a tradition for our Department, is a competition that promotes knowledge of the language. As you know, Petro Yatsyk is an outstanding philanthropist who emigrated to Canada in the 40s of the last century, where he became one of the richest people, investing in the development and support of the Ukrainian language and culture. The competition aims to establish the prestige of the Ukrainian language among students, to create conditions for its creative growth, to improve language literacy and speech culture, and to foster a respectful attitude to the traditions of the Ukrainian people. This year, it started on October 27, on the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, when there is a dictation of national unity in Ukraine (the university stage began on November 1, on the day of memory of Petro Yatsyk).

The Department of Ukrainian Language also conducts the university stage of Taras Shevchenko International Language and Literary Competition for Pupils and Students. These two competitions testify to the great interest of students in humanitarian knowledge.
