Societal Challenge

The aim of the priority is developing new solutions to overcome the present social challenges.

Within the framework of the pillar is expected supporting decisions aimed at:

  • improve lifelong health and human well-being;
  • provide the required amount of safe and high quality food and other bio-products by development of primary production with rational resource management, ecosystem services and competitive low carbon supply chains;
  • transition to reliable, sustainable and competitive energy system in conditions of growing scarcity of resources, energy needs and climate change;
  • create environmentally friendly, resource-efficient, well-functioning transport system in Europe;
  • create resource-efficient economy adapted to climate change and ensure a stable supply of raw materials to meet the needs of the growing world population within the sustainable use of natural resources of the planet;
  • develop innovative and secure societies and societies of equal opportunities in the context of new transformations and global interdependence growing.

Thematic areas of the pillar:

  • Health, demographic change and wellbeing;
  • Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy;
  • Secure, clean and efficient energy;
  • Smart, green and integrated transport;
  • Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials;
  • Europe in a changing world – inclusive, innovative and reflective societies;
  • Secure societies – protecting freedom and security of Europe and its citizens.
