On March 7, 2023, the Department of Business Economics and Investment, the Institute of Economics and Management, Lviv Polytechnic, successfully held the International Symposium «Economics and Management in Construction, Architecture, and Design: Modern Approaches to the Implementation of Educational Programs». The event, which attracted scientists from higher education institutions of Ukraine, Poland, the Baltic countries and Germany, as well as business representatives, was held both offline and online.
Orest Koleshchuk, Head of the BEI Department, opened the Symposium, emphasizing the speed of global progress and the need to implement modern approaches to the formation and implementation of educational programs: «...For educational programs of «Economics» specialty, educational program «Economics and Construction Management» and «Architecture and Construction» as well as «Design» specialty there is a need to discuss current issues, exchange opinions and find ways to improve the quality and trends of their development regarding today’s challenges, the needs of business and entrants, the requirements of the labour market, and the prospects of post-war reconstruction».
Professor Oleh Kuzmin, Director of the Institute of Economics and Management, addressed the participants with a welcome speech, and emphasized the significance of the influence of the construction industry on the development of the country’s economy in general. Professor Vasyl Kozyk, welcoming the participants, emphasized the importance of cooperation between leading universities, in particular the long fruitful cooperation with Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA).
The guarantors of educational program of specialty 051 «Economics» (Department of Construction Economics, KNUCA) showed interest in the seminar, namely Professor Lesia Sorokina and Professor Olha Bielienkova, Associate Professor Tetiana Tsyfra, and educational ombudsman Andrii Rosynskyi. Speakers emphasized the need to introduce innovative technologies, in particular BIM (Building Information Modeling).
Professor Innola Novykova, Deputy Director of Pedagogical Work, International Relations and Distance Learning, the Institute of Innovative Education of KNUCA, shared her Ukrainian and international experience in the implementation of educational programs in design, construction and economics. The participants were interested in the selective block of disciplines at the Baltic International Academy, Riga, Latvia, which contains coursework and projects that are highly popular among students.
Professor Svitlana Linda, Head of the Department of Design and Architecture Fundamentals, Lviv Polytechnic National University, noted the importance of adjusting the educational program of «Environmental Design» taking into account new economic challenges. Oksana Yurchyshyn, Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural Design, and Olena Zahoretska, Associate Professor at the Department of Enterprise and Investment Economics, also took part in the discussion about the need to introduce economic disciplines in the educational programs for architects and designers.
Dr inż. Renata Przewłocka-Sionek, engineer-architect of the Lodz University of Technology, Poland, shared her experience in the formation of educational programs, and emphasized the interest of students of architectural and design specialties in economic disciplines to determine the cost of objects of reconstruction, restoration and renovation.
