On October 20, a lecture dedicated to the life and creative path of the outstanding opera singer Solomiia Krushelnytska was held in the reading room of the Scientific and Technical Library, Lviv Polytechnic National University. The charming Butterfly captured the hearts of millions of people around the world with her voice. Bright stage appearance and unique talent helped Solomiia Krushelnytska to leave her mark in history. The debut performances of the singer in «Salome» by Richard Strauss, «Lorelei» and «Valley» by Alfredo Catalani contributed to the extraordinary popularity of these works.

«This year we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Solomiia Krushelnytska. This is an extraordinary event in our history. There were many interesting stories in the singer’s life. She was greeted with a standing ovation all over the world. Krushelnytska’s life is full of numerous victories. For many generations of Ukrainians, she became a symbol of perfection, incomparability and an example of how one can realize one’s dream. Krushelnytska was able to realize herself in life and call others to follow her. Despite millions of applauses from grateful listeners, she behaved with restraint. Solomiia Krushelnytska did not keep a diary and very rarely told anything about herself. Therefore, researching her life, our museum finds new artifacts every year», shared Danuta Bilavych, head of the scientific department of the Solomiia Krushelnytska Musical Memorial Museum in Lviv.

Solomiia Krushelnytska made her debut on the stage of the Lviv Opera Theater in Gaetano Donizetti’s opera «The Favorite» in 1893. Numerous reviews of this performance immediately appeared in all Ukrainian and Polish newspapers.

The opera diva won the title of the world’s greatest singer during her lifetime. Danuta Bilavych noted that Solomiia Krushelnytska had a voice with a unique range – almost three octaves. She could skillfully perform both mezzo-soprano and lyric-dramatic soprano roles.
