From now on, Polytechnicians have one more place for interesting meetings, communication, spending time after classes and creating their environment. On September 28, the new Student Space The 3rd Floor was opened in the Student Library of Lviv Polytechnic National University (Mytropolyta Andreia Street, 3). The event took place within the framework of the Week of the First Year Students of the University.
We have been working for a long time to create a place that will help create the youth environment of Polytechnicians. This idea was supported by the IT company SoftServe, which has been a reliable partner of our University for many years. Thanks to their assistance, the idea was realized – and 550 m2 became a space of new opportunities for students.
Opening the innovative space, Oleh Matviikiv, First Vice-Rector of Lviv Polytechnic National University, emphasized:
― We have been worked on the creation of this Student Space for three years. We planned to open its doors for our youth at the beginning of March, but due to the full-scale war, we had to postpone our meeting for half a year. And today, together with the long-term reliable partner of Lviv Polytechnic – the SoftServe company, which supported our idea by creating a place where the youth environment for Polytechnicians will be formed, we are here! In this space, we plan to hold various events so that students feel that Polytechnic is their university and that they are taken care of here. I am sure that this place will open many new opportunities for each of you. We have completely redesigned the space, separated zones for creativity, work and rest. Capital repairs and replacement of furniture turned the reading room into a place where students will comfortably study, develop, and create. And we will help in this in every possible way.
Taras Kytsmey, the Co-Founder and Board Member of SoftServe, emphasized the significance of this event, noting:
― SoftServe has long been cooperating with Lviv Polytechnic in a number of different educational programs and initiatives. It is important for us to support projects that bring immediate value to students. After all, the successes achieved by our company in recent years are built on synergy. Therefore, everything we do is useful both for us and for Lviv Polytechnic. I am sure that many of the students here will consider the possibility of employment at SoftServe. The goal of updating the library was not just to make repairs, but to change the format of the work and transform it from a traditional library into an open space for users. A library is a special place for us, people in the knowledge industry, who are guided by the principle «the more we know, the stronger and more successful we are». Therefore, I wish you to always remember this space as a place where you built your knowledge, and laid the foundation for future achievements. May you remember your space the way I remember my libraries. Good luck!
The culmination of the event was the students’ communication with the first guest of the Student Space The 3rd floor Yurii Zhuravel – a volunteer, artist, musician and founder of the band OT VINTA, about how to win in the war for identity.
Talking about the performances of his band OT VINTA, Yurii shared stories from concerts for the military, who are currently in the hottest places of our country. He emphasized that it is very important for our soldiers to have a sufficient repertoire of patriotic songs in the Ukrainian language.
At the end of the meeting, Yurii Zhuravel drew a portrait of King Danylo Halytskyi with a few strokes and presented it for a charity auction in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the Student Volunteer Headquarters. He also left several copies of his «Know Our Guys» calendar and books dedicated to outstanding persons for the library, so that they can also be used to support volunteer activities.
It is worth noting that during the renovation, Lviv Polytechnic University completely replanned the space:
- allocated separate zones for creativity, work and recreation,
- created two closed rooms for holding events,
- redesigned the premises,
- repaired ventilation systems,
- replaced the electrical network, lighting system, and fire alarm system,
- installed new furniture.
The SoftServe company made sure that it was comfortable here: it created a relaxation corner, and helped to computerize this space. It handed over 25 computers and 5 laptops to the library, and installed Wi-Fi for the comfortable work of visitors.
The premises will perform its main function as a reading room, where the Lviv Polytechnic Scientific and Technical Library will provide students with 20,000 copies of technical, economic, legal, historical and literary literature from its fund.
With the help of the SoftServe company, RFID frames were installed in the premises and special stickers were applied to the books, which will make it possible to conveniently search for the necessary copies, independently issue them and write them off using a self-service terminal. Such a system will be installed in the Scientific and Technical Library for the first time.
