At the end of 2024, two master’s educational programs – Chemical Technologies of Inorganic Substances and Water Treatment and Technical Electrochemistry – were simultaneously accredited at the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Inorganic Substances, the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies (ICCT), Lviv Polytechnic National University.

The purpose of the first of them is to train specialists in the following three professional areas: Chemical Technologies of Inorganic Substances and Water Treatment; Inorganic Catalysis; and Energy Condensed Substances and Materials.

The educational program Technical Electrochemistry is focused on the needs of enterprises in the chemical, energy, machine-building, metallurgical industries and instrumentation engineering, as well as medicine, the agricultural sector and the defense industry. Thanks to the cooperation of the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Inorganic Substances with the Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute of the NAS of Ukraine, students majoring in Technical Electrochemistry acquire modern knowledge in the field of corrosion protection of metal structures.

The guarantor of the educational program Chemical Technologies of Inorganic Substances and Water Treatment – Professor Andrii Sliuzar, Doctor of Technical Sciences, the Department of Chemistry and Technology of Inorganic Substances, explained:

– The accreditation of the educational program certifies its compliance with modern requirements and criteria for ensuring the proper quality of student training. The need for accreditation of the educational program Chemical Technologies of Inorganic Substances and Water Treatment is due to the fact that the need for specialists in the areas of Chemical Technologies of Inorganic Substances and Inorganic Catalysis has somewhat decreased, since for objective reasons many enterprises producing fertilizers, acids, and sulfur have closed or suspended their activities (for example, «Sirka» in Yavoriv and Novyi Rozdil, «KARPATNAFTOKHIM» in Kalush). However, the need for specialists in water treatment and water conditioning has increased, which is very relevant for many industries. This is evidenced by the growing interest of students from regions of Ukraine where there are nuclear and thermal power plants (Khmelnytsky and Rivne NPPs, Burshtyn, Dobrotvir and other TPPs), where water preparation for steam turbines and cooling circuits of nuclear reactors is a very important issue.

Before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the direction (selective block) «Energy-condensed substances and materials» was opened within the framework of the educational program Chemical Technologies of Inorganic Substances and Water Treatment. This is due to the very acute need for training specialists in the field of pyrotechnic products, necessary for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard of Ukraine, and the Security Service of Ukraine. During a full-scale war, their relevance, of course, increased.
