Lviv Polytechnic National University opens a modern laboratory to manufacture medical supplies intended for the treatment of wounds and burns. We are talking about hydrogel dressings.
The innovation of these dressings is that they are biodegradable, that is able to decompose after use, and they are made of natural materials, which helps to avoid any skin rashes. The production technology was developed by researchers of Lviv Polytechnic, who have already patented it.
«Last year, the pilot line for the production of hydrogel materials for medical purposes received co-financing from the regional budget in the amount of 700,000 hryvnias within the framework of the Program for the Promotion of Innovation, Scientific and Technological Development in the Lviv Region. These funds were transferred to the improvement of the technological line, the purchase of equipment, as well as the process of product certification. The walls of the pilot lineare decorated with printouts of positive reviews from the military, who had the opportunity to experience all the advantages of the dressings developed in Lviv region, which cannot but please. I express my gratitude to the Lviv Polytechnic administration, sponsors, and the Department of Economic Policy, thanks to which the production process became possible and increased by several times, as well as to the researchers and students», said Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
By the way, it will take several weeks for the Center to obtain certification for the manufactured products.
Before the equipment of the pilot line, the manufacture of hydrogel dressings took place in different classrooms of the educational institution, which slowed down work and reduced productivity. Now, with modern equipment, the researchers can make several thousand small dressings per day. Students are involved in this process as well.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, hydrogel dressings have been delivered to front-line hospitals and medical units in most regions of Ukraine. University specialists receive many positive reviews from the military. All bandages are completely free for military use. Raw materials are provided by benefactors and sponsors.
