The training «Planning the work of the Department: the role of the Chair» was held for Heads of the Departments

The training «Planning the work of the Department: the role of the Chair» for the Heads of the Departments was held within the School of Leadership, Lviv Polytechnic. The training dealt with the planning peculiarities of the work of scientific and pedagogical employees and the Departments.

― Work planning plays an important role in the fulfillment of the tasks facing the University. The set of indicators that underlie the individual work plans of scientific and pedagogical employees are coordinated with the Strategic development plan of Polytechnic and are oriented towards the implementation of specific tasks that reflect strategic priorities. Therefore, it is the scientific and pedagogical employees of the Departments – due to their direct participation in all types of the main activities of the University – who are the key persons in the implementation of the University’s Strategy, stressed Liliia Zhuk, Vice-Rector for Education and Strategic Development.

Ruslana Kosiv, Head of the Laboratory of Higher Education Institution, presented to the Heads of the Departments information about the changes to the Regulation on the Departments’ ranking and the Temporary Regulation on the procedure for planning and evaluating scientific and pedagogical workers which were made this year basing on the work results of the working group. She also spoke about the methodological peculiarities of work planning and the peculiarities of using individual indicators when calculating rankings based on the results of the annual reporting of employees and Departments.

― The Head of the Department is responsible for organizing the educational and scientific process at the Department, setting the main goals of the Department’s team, distributing the teaching load and agreeing on the individual plans of the academics. Such actions contribute to the effective management of the Department’s resources and ensuring the high quality of the educational process. The role of the Head of the Department in work planning is to rationally allocate human resources and focus the employee’s attention on the most important tasks, taking into account his individual abilities and professional experience. A rational approach to management and the consideration of management decisions by the Head will ensure effective interaction between employees and optimization of resource allocation, will allow avoiding dispersion of efforts, and as a result will maximize the effectiveness of the Department and each employee, added Nadiia Liubomudrova, the Head of the Department of Employee Training and Development.

During the training, a lively discussion took place, which demonstrated the interest and involvement of the Heads in the planning process of the Department’s work.
