The summer school «Polytechnic Camp» started on June 15. It is organized by the Career Guidance Center, Lviv Polytechnic, and the Lviv Regional Small Academy of Sciences.
The first lesson «Trust, but verify» took place at the Department of Physical, Analytical and General Chemistry, ICCT. 29 students of schools and lyceums of Lviv and the region got acquainted with the methods of quality control of products and materials by analytical chemistry methods.
Schoolchildren learned about current trends in chemistry and what students are taught at the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies. The students were shown the experiments used in chemical analysis, as well as the rapid analysis of jewelry for the content of precious metals.
At the Department of Physical, Analytical and General Chemistry, students had the opportunity to experiment independently. All volunteers performed individual work to determine the mass fraction of acetic acid in vinegar. All schoolchildren perfectly coped with the tasks.
The students also got acquainted with different areas of work of the Department of Technology of Biologically Active Substances, Pharmacy and Biotechnology. In particular – with the synthesis of new drugs, microbiological studies, and determination of the structure of medicinal plants. They also examined under a microscope representatives of the natural aquatic ecosystem.
Schoolchildren joined the creation and tasting of yogurt based on Tibetan fungus and tested a cream based on the mucus secretion of the African snail Achatina fulika.
