Every year in December, students of the bachelor’s programs of the Lviv IT Cluster summarize the results of teamwork on projects. Together with experienced mentors, hundreds of students work in teams on innovative projects, gain practical skills, teamwork experience and learn to present their ideas to the public to demonstrate their work to a special jury on New Year’s Eve.
In September, the Cluster students were divided into teams of 5–6 people and chose the topics of their projects. Depending on the program, students work on projects for one or more semesters. Students were assisted in preparing technical solutions by the Cluster IT specialists, and teamwork teachers were responsible for the development of soft skills.
This year, the first to defend their projects were students of the first and second years of the bachelor’s program «Internet of Things» at Lviv Polytechnic. A total of 37 teams, consisting of about 200 students, presented their projects online and received grades and recommendations. The jury for the IoT program was formed by SoftServe specialist and lecturer Yaroslav Klochnyk, Head of Human Capital at PlVision, and part-time representative of the Education Committee of the Lviv IT Cluster Igor Salamin, as well as other IT professionals with extensive experience in startup, finance and IT innovation.
The projects prepared by the students were very different – from household to agricultural or medical: motivational and tourist applications, educational platforms, cooking services, smart cups and smart devices for farmers, parking and anti-theft systems for cars, software for virtual reality devices for medical students and others. The members of the jury noted that every year the level of projects and presentation skills of students is constantly growing, and a number of projects are ready to be presented to investors.
