The Department of Ukrainian Language, Lviv Polytechnic National University, systematically conducts thematic events to promote the Ukrainian language and culture. As in modern conditions various online meetings, seminars, lectures, webinars, summer and winter schools, etc. have become a good tool for lifelong learning and education, in March the Department of Ukrainian Language held a spring school «Online Course «Ukrainian Unites» for our compatriots who seek to improve the level of proficiency in the state language. The importance and special relevance of this educational project is evidenced by the participants of the course, who, in particular, note its motivational role for a deeper study of the history of native language, literature, life and history of Ukrainians as a nation.

It is gratifying that the classes helped to develop the skills of oral and written communication in the Ukrainian language of people who have not used the state language in everyday life yet. The learning process was exciting, informative and comfortable for both students and teachers, who received many words of gratitude from their adult students. Yuliia Lanko writes to us: «Thanks to the easy and relaxed atmosphere, we managed to get rid of the fear of speaking Ukrainian quite quickly. A great indicator after completing the course for me was the realization that the choice between Ukrainian and Russian as the language of communication doesn’t exist anymore. It will be my great pleasure to improve my language, learn to think in it, be proud of it, advertise and motivate others by my example. Your course has given me confidence in my strength today and enthusiasm for the future, for which I am sincerely grateful to you».

Zoriana Kunch, Head of the Department of Ukrainian Language, emphasizes: «I would like to emphasize that students from our occupied lands systematically joined our studies at our Spring School «Ukrainian Unites». From them we not only learned about the mood that prevails there, but also, I hope, supported their fighting spirit and confidence in the imminent victory. Thus, 19-year-old Mariia from Yalta dreams of becoming a student at the Borys Hrinchenko Kyiv University and has no doubt that Crimea will soon get rid of the occupiers. And 30-year-old Nataliia, a native of Luhansk, has been living in Kherson since 2014. Her desire to speak Ukrainian and improve her language skills was not hindered by her long stays in the basement during air raids or by health problems. The diligence and purposefulness of such students, their inspiration and courage inspires and motivates us, the teachers».

The staff of the Department of Ukrainian Language expresses its sincere gratitude to its fellow philologists from other institutions who responded to the call to join the work of the Spring School «Ukrainian Unites». We think that the only downside of this course is that it has already come to an end, so we will look for new ways to continue this important educational mission.
