In the premises of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, a briefing was held regarding the start of the enrollment to the Ukrainian Distance Learning School (UDLS) for the 2022/2023 academic year. It dealt with the peculiarities of training and educational opportunities for schoolchildren.

Ivan Sobko, deputy head of the Lviv Regional State Administration (LRSA), Oleh Paska, director of the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv Regional Military Administration (LRMA), and Marharyta Noskova, head of the Ukrainian Distance Learning School, director of the Center for Innovative Educational Technologies, Lviv Polytechnic National University, told about this year’s peculiarities of the organization of education at the UDLS, innovations and the importance of quality education in wartime conditions.

– The Ukrainian Distance Learning School became possible due to several steps. Firstly, due to the fact that at the beginning of the covid-19 outbreak, the head of the administration Maksym Kozytskyi and the management found costs and immediately started training teachers at the Center for Innovative Educational Technologies, Lviv Polytechnic. They had relevant experience, and when the war began, volunteers from among these teachers created such a unique project. Secondly, it is the support and understanding of the Ministry of Education and Science. The Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Vira Rohova, who supported the development of UDLS, paid us a visit. Thirdly, this is the permanent work of the Center for Innovative Educational Technologies, Lviv Polytechnic National University. Lviv Region was the first, and we are pleased that other universities in the country are taking our project as a basis, said Oleh Paska.

Ukrainian schoolchildren who are abroad will be able to combine studies according to the programs of the country of their temporary stay and according to Ukrainian standards at UDLS. For children who do not have the opportunity to attend live lessons, such a project provides an opportunity to study and learn the material 24/7.

– I would like to emphasize that education was and remains free of charge and is primarily aimed at children of internally displaced persons, children who are in occupied territories or in the zone of active hostilities, as well as children who were forced to go abroad due to the war.

We are a licensed school, and I am proud that this year we have already graduated 9th and 11th grades. 93% of students, who finished 9th grade at our school, would continue to study at UDLS in the future. Many children who returned to their schools after de-occupation continued their studies with us, stressing that the quality of education allows them to realize their wishes and needs. We are open to cooperation and would like to express our gratitude to everyone who has helped us in one way or another. I would like to emphasize that Lviv Polytechnic has a master’s degree program for the training of distance learning teachers, and some of the graduates of this program worked at the Ukrainian Distance Learning School (UDLS). This is another indicator that it works!

Education at UDLS is carried out according to state standards. Considering the specifics of distance learning, I would like to emphasize that there are no disciplines that cannot be studied remotely. Even Physical Education is taught at UDLS! Now there are 86 teachers and we are considering 10 more candidates for the position of teacher at the Ukrainian Distance Learning School, said Marharyta Noskova.
