On March 19, academic staff of the Management and International Business Department joined the round table "Search for digital solutions to meet the need for socialization of people with hearing impairment in Ukraine". The Lviv Special School of Maria Pokrova (a state educational institution for children with hearing impairment) and NGO "Speak" (develops digital technologies to improve people's lives) were the initiators of the event aimed at broad discussion of the needs and challenges of children with hearing impairment. Teachers who work with children from this school, representatives of public organizations, and sign language interpreters participated in the round table. During the meeting, the participants discussed the following issues:
- Technologies for good: a section of available digital technologies in the environment of people with hearing impairment (in everyday life, in education, in society);
- Inclusion in education: children with hearing impairment. The educational path of a child today. Problems that exist on the educational path;
- Digital tool for people with hearing impairment: analog in the world/idea, what it looks like, and the corresponding functionality. How to develop digital solutions that solve specific problems, adapt them to the educational environment, and spread them in society.
During the meeting, Prof. Viktoriya Kharchuk and Prof. Roman Shulyar displayed the progress of the AFID Project, aimed at developing tools to support inclusive education in higher education institutions. They presented the Multiinstitutional Inclusive Virtual Educational Campus (MIIVC). The MIIVC is a complex of courses that will be taught with modern digital tools. The campus is designed to cater to the needs of individuals with different abilities and create an engaging and modern educational environment.
