Roman Korzh, Vice-Rector for Education and Social Development, tells about increasing number of professional education programs

New opportunities for the development of Lviv Polytechnic are opened up due to its cooperation with employers and stakeholders. Roman Korzh, Vice-Rector for Education and Social Development, tells us in more detail about the prospects for expanding the participation of employers in the renewal of the professional education programs (PEP).

– Please tell us in general about the structure and content of professional education programs (PEP) at Lviv Polytechnic.

– PEPs are developed for each specialty and specialization at Lviv Polytechnic National University. In the preface of every PEP you can find information on its compliance with existing standards and the list of stakeholders with whose participation it was developed. Among the main stakeholders, employers are mandatory participants in working groups to develop and improve PEP. They can make suggestions and comments, which are considered and taken into account when developing and updating the PEP. Professional education programs must contain an item on the appropriateness of the student’s skills for the work environment and further study. On the website of Lviv Polytechnic, employers and other stakeholders have the opportunity to leave feedback on the PEP and their projects for next year.

– What is the main goal and objective of such professional education programs?

– The goals of the education program include the formation of general and special (professional) competencies, which will provide students with the opportunity to successfully compete in the labour market. Organizing activities to promote student employment provides an opportunity to establish cooperation with relevant companies, to involve employers in the development and improvement of PEP. In addition, an important aspect is internship, which provides good professional and practical training of the specialists.

– Which companies are involved in the development of PEPs?

– During the development of PEP «Computer Science», the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education in the field of Information Technologies (12), specialty 122 «Computer Science» there were representatives of such well-known IT companies as R&D Engineering, EPAM, SoftServe, and N-iX. Representatives of Lviv Regional Council, Lviv City Council, Department of Marketing and Innovation, and Scientific and Technical Library of Lviv Polytechnic National University were involved in the development of the PEP «Information, Library and Archival Affairs» of the second (master’s) level of education in the field of Culture and Art (02), specialty 029 «Information, Library and Archival Affairs».
