On September 14, 2023, a public lecture on the European integration of Ukraine by Dainius Zalimas was held within the framework of the project «European studies for technical specialties at Lviv Polytechnic National University (EUSTS) with the support of the EU Erasmus+ programme, Jean Monnet Actions.
Dainius Zalimas is Doctor of Law, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Vytautas Magnus University (Kaunas, Republic of Lithuania), as well as representative of the Republic of Lithuania in the European Commission «For Democracy through Law» (Venice Commission), and Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania in 2014–2020. He met with more than a hundred of the 1st-4th year students majoring in International Relations and Management of Foreign Economic Activities.
Dainius Zhalimas has been supporting Ukrainians for a long time and providing expert advice on reforming the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, renewing the legal culture in Ukrainian society, protecting the interests of our citizens in international courts and helping Ukrainians in implementing the Euro-Atlantic strategic course. In particular, he was one of the main ideologues of introducing changes to the Constitution of Ukraine on the irreversibility of the state’s Euro-Atlantic strategic course.
In his lecture, Dainius Zalimas shared with the audience his own thoughts about the integration of Ukraine using the example of reforming the judicial system. In particular, the professor voiced a number of practical recommendations aimed at the successful implementation of European standards in the domestic judiciary.
Dainius Zalimas expressed his gratitude and respect to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to every Ukrainian who is bravely defending his home, his city, his country and the whole of Europe.
Students actively participated in the discussion and expressed interest in practical recommendations for Ukraine’s adherence to the Euro-Atlantic course and possible further consultations of Lithuanians in this matter.
