One of the highlight eco-events in May is the first in Ukraine Plastic Challenge Hackathon – 2021, dedicated to the fight against plastic pollution. The initiative was implemented in two areas – under the Jean Monnet Erasmus+ Project «Production and dissemination of the goals of the circular economy in Ukraine» (according to the EU Action Plan) and in accordance with the partnership activities of our country in the European Green Week. The event was held on May 27–28, 2021, on the occasion of the Day of Science in Ukraine, and co-organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and Sumy National Agrarian University.

The Hackathon program was varied and interesting. 26 institutions became the partners. There were universities, research institutes and individual researchers from France, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden.

The LvivBioPlast team from the Lviv region took part in the Hackathon at the invitation of the PlasticCH2021 Committee. The purpose of the Project is to increase the competitiveness and environmental safety of the Western region of Ukraine through the introduction of technologies for the production of eco-containers from biopolymers.

The Project was presented by two groups of researchers – offline and online. The first group operated at Sumy NAU. It was represented by Uliana Sadova, Professor at Lviv Polytechnic National University, Head of the Research Laboratory of Social and Demographic Policy and Management «DEMOS», and Olha Hrynkevych, Professor at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

The second group of researchers, representatives of Lviv Polytechnic National University, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Dolishniy Institute of Regional Research of NAS of Ukraine, worked online.

For the Lviv team, which has serious financial support within the framework of sectoral support of the EU, participation in the event is, first of all, a powerful incentive for organizing and conducting research, and establishing relationships with other researchers. Finding new ideas and people is truly important!
