For three days, July 2-4, events are being held in Lviv to honour the memory of researchers who were shot by the Nazi occupiers in July 1941 on the Vuletsky Hills. This year marks the 80th anniversary of this tragedy, which is a deep wound of the Ukrainian and Polish people.
During the funeral services, all participants stressed the importance of remembering the common history, making every effort to open the unknown pages of this tragedy, to learn to hear each other, and never to allow such crimes to happen again.
On July 3, representatives of the regional and city authorities of Lviv, the Consul General of Poland in Lviv, researchers from Polish and Lviv higher education institutions, as well as public activists gathered on the Vuletsky Hills. The memorial service began with a minute of silence for the innocently killed representatives of the Lviv scientific intelligentsia. After the laying of flowers, a joint prayer service was held for the dead.
On July 2, Lviv Polytechnic hosted a large-scale online bridge with Wroclaw, which was joined by city officials, researchers and public activists.
Welcoming the participants of the conference, Professor Nataliya Chukhray, Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations, Lviv Polytechnic National University, stressed that these commemorations symbolize the unity of the history of the two peoples.
The Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Lviv, Eliza Dzwonkiewicz, who initiated and facilitated the commemorations, stressed that today we - Ukrainians and Poles - must stand together on these issues and look for new ways to spread our common history.
