With the beginning of the new academic year, Ukrainian higher education institutions have to scrutinize students’ and lecturers’ research papers for plagiarism. On August 16, during a working visit to Lviv, Liliia Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, stated that institutes, universities and academies are ready to more actively counteract unscrupulously borrowed content in course works, diploma theses and research papers with the help of anti-plagiarism systems.
– Now high education institutions are signing agreements with companies that provide such services. I will say more: they have no other choice, because MES has introduced to the legislative base the norm that the specialized academic council is responsible for checking for plagiarism in every work that will be defended, assured the official.
The first company with which higher education institutions of Ukraine began to cooperate in the struggle with plagiarism became Polish company Plagiat.pl. In February its leadership signed a memorandum with the Ministry of Education and Science, and since then it has signed the agreements with more than sixty education institutions, including five in Lviv: Lviv Polytechnic National University, Lviv State University of Internal Affairs, Lviv National Agrarian University, Lviv State University of Physical Culture and Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Ground Forces Academy.
