On September 6, 2022, Lviv Polytechnic National University held the official opening of the international project «European studies for students of technical specialties at Lviv Polytechnic National University». More than a hundred participants – students, teaching staff, invited guests and the project team (Hrystyna Zabavska, Nataliia Vovk, Oleksandr Markovets, Olha Ivasechko, Oleh Tsebenko, Lidiia Kasha, Iryna Sukhorolska and manager Yaryna Turchyn) attended the event.
The welcoming speech was delivered by Nataliya Chukhray, Vice-Rector for Education and International Relations, Lviv Polytechnic, Petro Krainik, Manager of the Jean Monnet Actions, the National Erasmus+ Office, Serhii Shkabko, State Expert at the Directorate for Strategic Planning and European Integration, the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine, Andrii Lozynskyi, Director of the Institute of Power Engineering and Control Systems, Lviv Polytechnic, and Roman Kalytchak, representative of the Ukrainian Association of Professors and Researchers of European Integration.
Oleh Tsebenko, a member of the project team, presented 15 features of the EUSTS project, its interdisciplinary nature, practical orientation, interactivity, etc. More detailed information about the project can be found on the University’s website.
Yaryna Turchyn, a moderator of the event, expressed her gratitude to the Lviv Polytechnic students who participated in the project opening and made a creative visual product «European Studies through the Eyes of Youth». In particular, Yuliia Vaida, Bohdan Mirinchyk, Mykhailo Kasianchuk, Anastasiia Korotiukova, Tetiana Bodnar, Romaniia Hasyn, Viktoriia Tokarieva, Albina Taiakina, Oleh Romanchyshyn, and Mykhailo Khomiak. The organizers of the event expressed their gratitude to Yurii Bobalo, rector of Lviv Polytechnic, and Svitlana Shytikova, head of the National Erasmus+ office in Ukraine, for their support in the project implementation
The project will last until August 31, 2025 and its goals are:
- creation of the Jean Monnet Department at Lviv Polytechnic National University;
- formation and dissemination of knowledge about the EU and European integration topics among students of technical majors through the introduction of education courses and other activities;
- development of the latest methods for spreading European studies in technical universities with the involvement of a wide range of stakeholders and popularizing such experience in other higher education institutions of Ukraine;
- creation of institutional opportunities for improving the professional competences of teaching staff, civil servants, representatives of local authorities, public activists, as well as increasing knowledge about the EU among schoolchildren and other focus groups in order to implement changes in approximation to European standards.
Within the framework of the project, three educational modules will be taught:
- «Ukraine – EU digital transformation» (144 hours);
- «EU energy and new trends for Ukraine» (144 hours);
- «Environmental and climate sustainability of the EU» (96 hours).
