As part of the “E-marketing” project, Marketing and Logistics Department organized Earth Day 2024: Debates and the Conscious Consumer Brochure Contest

Every year at the end of April, the global community celebrates Earth Day, holding various events to draw attention to the challenges facing our planet’s vulnerable environment. At the Marketing and Logistics Department of the Lviv Polytechnic National University, within the framework of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module project “Promoting EU Practices through E-Marketing, Conscious Consumption, Circular Economy, and Resource Efficiency”, the project team – Oksana Dovhun (PhD, Associate Professor), Taisiia Nakonechna (PhD, Associate Professor), and Nataliia Mashchak (PhD, Associate Professor) organized an open online World Café event on Monday, April 22. The goal was to discuss pressing issues related to conscious consumption, circular economy, resource efficiency, and best European practices for addressing them.

The event was opened with a welcoming speech by Prof. Nazar Hlynskyi, Acting Head of Marketing and Logistics Department, who emphasized the importance of implementing EU grants in Ukraine under the conditions of the russian military invasion. He also highlighted the relevance of raising environmental awareness and promoting European principles of environmental care among the public.

In the first part of the online event, students debated circular economy, conscious consumption, and digitalization, with two teams presenting arguments “for” and “against” each topic. The participants were evaluated by a jury consisting of experts working in responsible business and environmental fields:

  • Oksana Lutsko – Deputy Head of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources, Lviv City Council;
  • Lidiia Bolibrukh – Senior Sales Specialist, Ralph Lauren Corporation (Germany);
  • Olha Melnyk – Expert in green economy projects, PPV Economic Development Agency.

According to the jury’s decision, the winning debate team consisted of Anastasiia Olishchuk, Tereza Bilyk, Ostap Ivashchyshyn, Artur Kazimirchak, Ilona Labazevych, Khrystyna Bey, Maksym Nikolyak, Tetiana Firman, Oleh Karpiak, Denys Kravchuk, Olena Tyzhnyk, and Anastasiia Vitruk.

In the second part of the online event, students presented conscious consumer brochures specially prepared for the occasion, and the results of the contest for the best brochure were announced. A pre-event vote included 95 respondents. As a result, the contest was won by the brochure “Keep Up, Drink Coffee, Save the Planet!” created by Sofiia Boikivska and Solomiia Kushpir.

The event was attended by students from various departments of the Institute of Economics and Management, the Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, and the Institute of Computer Technologies, Automation, and Metrology.
