On 19 November, a wall of memory of students, graduates and teachers who died for Ukraine was opened near the Institute of Computer Technologies, Automation and Metrology.
The event took place in an intimate, almost family-like atmosphere, where everyone shared their pain and tears. Only together can we survive these difficult moments – for Ukraine, for the mothers and fathers of the heroes, and for their academic community.
According to tradition, a minute of silence was held, after which the National Anthem of Ukraine was played.
Among those mentioned on the wall of memory are students and graduates of different years, as well as teachers who joined the defense of the country. These are Nazariy Hladkyi, a student volunteer, Volodymyr Ivaniuk, Yurii Osadchuk, Oleksandr Sozanskyi, Roman Mysak, Oleksandr Pitsyk, Yurii Lavryk – senior lecturer at the Department of Specialized Computer Systems, Bohdan Tepliukh, Mykhailo Proshchuk and Roman Tsendra.
The opening remarks were delivered by the Rector of the University, Nataliia Shakhovska. She emphasized that the war in Ukraine has been going on for as many years as the Second World War, and every day it takes the lives of Ukrainians. According to her, the greatest loss for the state is not infrastructure and technology, but people. Lviv Polytechnic has always been a center of patriotic spirit: its students and graduates joined the liberation struggle and defense of the country, and their feat will forever remain in the memory of the university community.
Yurii Kostiv, Director of the Institute, said that the preparation for the opening of the memorial wall was a joint effort of teachers and students: they collected materials, prepared photographs, and created QR codes leading to the Book of Memory. It is important that every student can see the faces of the deceased and understand that today’s opportunity to study is thanks to their sacrifice.
