This year, 2362 entrants applied for Management, which once again made this major the leader in popularity among entrants. Why management? How is the Department preparing to accept so many students? What is the situation with employment of its graduates?
– Interest in majors is constantly changing, especially now, with the development of computer technology and artificial intelligence, says Oleh Karyi, Head of the Department of Management of Organizations, the Institute of Economics and Management, Lviv Polytechnic National University. However, when we talk about management as a science of managing people, it will exist as long as people interact with each other. That is why the management major has been among the leaders for so long. It is worth noting that we are not just seeing an increase in the number of applications from entrants twice as much as in previous years, but a typical situation that has been going on for quite some time.
– This year, the Department of Management of Organizations attracted the largest number of entrants. How exactly do you train students and do they have the opportunity to develop in one of the areas of this major at the university?
– We have four Departments that work with entrants to Bachelor’s degree in management, as the number of entrants is very large and requires the involvement of more than one Department. After the second year of study, students choose one of six large elective blocks (specializations in management) based on the basic knowledge they have acquired in general economic disciplines and their major. This knowledge makes students’ choices more informed both in terms of the specific area of application of management knowledge and the academics they want to study with and further develop.
– When choosing a major, students often have questions about employment prospects. What is the job situation for management graduates?
– The demand for specialists is quite high, so third- and fourth-year students are already being hired a lot. The war has made certain adjustments, but we continue to actively involve practitioners in teaching disciplines and provide students with the opportunity to undertake internships at companies in various industries and in different departments.
Students who do well in their studies have the opportunity to receive scholarships from various companies. In this way, companies such as Galka LTD encourage young people to study hard and work for them in the future. We also help students start their own businesses through specialized training as part of international projects, including the possibility of receiving some start-up capital. We provide these trainings not only for management students.
The labour market has changed due to the war, but the need for management professionals remains stable, and everyone who wants to get a job finds one.
