The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine distributed 18.8 billion hryvnias of budget funds among the universities of our country, which are subordinate to it.
Danylo Hetmantsev, head of the Finance Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, announced which institutions of higher education in Ukraine will receive the most funds. They are:
- National Technical University «Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute» – 1,530.9 million hryvnias;
- Lviv Polytechnic National University – 980.1 million hryvnias;
- National University of Life and Environmental Sciences – 620 million hryvnias;
- Ivan Franko Lviv National University – 568.4 million hryvnias;
- National Aviation University – 498.8 million hryvnias;
- National Technical University «Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute» – 496.6 million hryvnias;
- Karazin Kharkiv National University – 412 million hryvnias.
Hetmantsev reported that the money was distributed according to five main indicators. The main distribution criterion is the contingent of tuition-free students. Other criteria include:
- scientific activity – the amount of funds (per one employee) earned from the provision of scientific, technical, consulting services or received in the form of grants for scientific developments;
- international recognition – place in international rankings, participation in European Erasmus+ projects;
- regional coefficient – to support institutions from the most vulnerable regions;
- employment – the percentage of graduates who are employed (according to the Pension Fund). It is worth noting that the list does not include the traditional leader in terms of funding – Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University. According to Serhii Babak, head of the Education Committee of the Verkhovna Rada, it is the only institution of higher education that has a separate line of funding in the state budget.
