On June 24, there was a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Interparliamentary Council in Lviv Polytechnic.

Among the participants there were Madeleine Moon, the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Andrii Parubii, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oksana Yurynets, the Head of the Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and others.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada expressed confidence that the foreign policy of Ukraine and its intention to join the EU and NATO remain unchanged. That is why the Ukrainian parliament introduced changes to the Constitution of Ukraine, defining the path to the EU and NATO as a key task of the foreign policy of Ukraine. He, in particular, stressed that:

It’s not just a direction that politicians have chosen, but a direction that Ukrainian society supports. Recent statistical survey reports show a dynamic increase in the number of Ukrainians who are convinced Ukraine must become a NATO member. Therefore, the parliament just became the spokesman for the general social needs and public opinion, noted the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

Andrii Parubii also stressed that for our country a serious signal that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is inevitable, can be considered the fact that in spring 2020, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly will be held in Kyiv. He added that each non-NATO country, where such an event took place, quickly became a member of the Alliance.

Madeleine Moon, the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, said:

We are here to send a very clear message to every citizen – we, all in the alliance, are with you. We, like you, are determined to achieve a positive result – so that you become a member of the Alliance. We know that this path is not easy and a very difficult choice must be made, but we also know that this is what citizens of this country want, said Madeleine Moon.

Oksana Yurynets, the Head of the delegation of the Verkhovna Rada to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, expressed hope that Ukraine will become the 31st member of the NATO (North Macedonia is the 30th member).
