Hero of Ukraine, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the I-IV convocations Ihor Yukhnovskyi talked how the Constitution of Ukraine was created. Ihor Yukhnovskyi devoted his entire life to science, and after the Independence of Ukraine – to politics. Today, Professor continues to actively work for Ukraine.
«Ihor Yukhnovskyi is a legendary person who entered the history of Ukraine. Everyone is interested in how the Ukrainian parliament worked at that time and how the opposition to the communist majority was like,» emphasized the moderator of the event Andrii Hrechylo, Doctor of Historical Sciences.
During his speech, Ihor Yukhnovskyi shared not only his memories of the parliamentary struggle for state sovereignty, but also his thoughts on how we should fight for freedom and peace today.
«We have to pay for Independence. This has always been the case in human history. Today’s war is our fee. It will be a great period of learning and lessons for the entire Ukrainian nation. This war is senseless, which is why it is so difficult to resolve the current difficult situation,» says Ihor Yukhnovskyi.
At the meeting, Academician told about the new draft of the basic law of the country:
«It differs significantly from the Constitution adopted in 1996. This project is already ready for implementation. Under the new Constitution, power structures will be clearly divided. The parliament will be bicameral. The upper house is the senate, which will work continuously. Senators will be elected for six years. We will elect the same number of senators from each region of Ukraine. Given the fact that the number of regions that support the Ukrainian state is much bigger than those that are against it, the Senate of Ukraine will ensure our stability. The lower house is the National Assembly of Ukraine. It will adopt laws, resolutions and other acts».
Ihor Yukhnovskyi paid special attention to the issue of bilingualism. Academician emphasized that the native Ukrainian language is the main wealth of the country. Our language should be protected and nurtured.
At the end of the meeting, the guest presented a copy of the Constitution of Ukraine with his own autograph to the Scientific and Technical Library.
