Students of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems, the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, Lviv Polytechnic, have created a program that distinguishes a living person from the photo. The invention can be used in security systems to identify a person. The program was created by young IT specialists with the help of academic staff, equipment was provided by an American company.

A fourth-year student Dmytro Petrov demonstrates the program that he developed along with five of his groupmates. It’s enough to get into a small camera lens and in a few seconds it distinguishes a living person from a photo or video image.

– That is, now, instead of having a card with you, swype and pass through the terminal, it is enough to approach and show your face. It takes an image, searches if we have this image, if we know who it is, we give access, if not – we do not access, – said Dmytro Petrov.

If the program did not recognize a person, then an error message or an unauthorized login attempt appears on the screen. Such a student development can be used in security centers or banks safety systems and instead of card access to the premises.
