The Resource Center for Educational Information Technology for Persons with Disabilities presented a book for the blind «Interesting Chemistry» by Yuliia Smal. Specialists of the Resource Center and the Lviv Polytechnic Publishing House had been working on its preparation for a long time. The publication is funded by two University researchers – Head of the Software Department Dmytro Fedasiuk and the Professor of the Department of Electronics and Information Technology Volodymyr Pavlysh. Recently, they received the State Prize in Education and decided to gift it to publish a book in Braille and to make audio to it, encrypted in a QR-code. Professor Fedasiuk also donated part of his prize to purchase a mobile phone for the blind Tolik Nechkaliuk from Vinnytsia Region.
The Head of the Resource Center, Oksana Potymko, and her colleagues appreciate this act of Polytechnic Professors.
Blind children from different regions, participants of «Christmas fairy tale on white paws», which they created together with Pikkardiyska Tertsiya band, attended the presentation of the book. The premiere of their performance took place on December 29 on the stage of the Dovzhenko Center.
But let’s go back to «Interesting Chemistry», which its author Yuliia Smal described as a biography of substances. As Oksana Potymko jokingly pointed out, this is not a chemistry textbook, but a fascinating description of chemical processes. The author of the book interestingly and simply describes, from the chemist’s point of view, what surrounds us: food, oxygen, solar heat, the combustion process, etc., offers interesting experiments, and tells about the world of atoms and molecules.
It is gratifying that 50 books of «Interesting Chemistry» will go to blind children from all over Ukraine, as well as replenish city libraries and book collections of specialized boarding schools.
