The Institute of Law, Psychology and Innovative Education, Lviv Polytechnic National University, has opened a classroom «History of the Ukrainian Bar Association», which will become a unique educational space for law students. Equipped with historical stands about famous lawyers, it will not only be a place to acquire relevant knowledge, but also a platform for scientific discussions, research and debate on historical aspects of the development of the Bar in Ukraine and the world.
The initiators of this classroom creation was Uliana Kovna, Head of the Lviv Regional Bar Council; Iryna Vasylyk, Vice-Rector of the Higher School of Advocacy of the Ukrainian National Bar Association, Head of the Centre for Research on the Bar and Law; and Maria Blikhar, Head of the ILPIE Department of Administrative and Informational Law.
Volodymyr Ortynsky, Professor, Honoured Lawyer of Ukraine, Director of the Institute of Law, Psychology and Innovative Education, welcomed the participants of the event. He emphasised the importance of such an initiative for the training of future lawyers and noted that this classroom would become a centre of legal culture and education for students seeking to dive deeper into the history of the Bar and its role in the development of the Ukrainian legal system. Uliana Kovna and Iryna Vasylyk also delivered speeches, in which they emphasised the special significance of the history of the Bar for the formation of professional standards, ethics and human rights activities of modern lawyers.
At the same time, there was a presentation of the book 100 Years of the Ukrainian Bar Association which was held as part of the practical event and working meetings in the Zachariewicz Hall, the University’s main building. It is aimed at teachers, students and representatives of the law community who can learn more about unique historical materials and the contribution of lawyers to the development of the legal culture of Ukraine.
