Lviv Polytechnic holds a meeting with Mykola Lesiuk, a famous linguist

The other day, the creative meeting with Mykola Lesiuk, the famous Ukrainian linguist, Doctor of Philology, Professor at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University, was held within the project “To the goal through the book” by Iryna Farion at Lviv Polytechnic National University.

The meeting was begun with a brief guest’s biography. Introducing him, Iryna Farion says that Mykola Lesiuk is the author of over 300 scientific papers devoted to the study of the Ukrainian language. There is a presented book “The formation and development of the literary language in Galicia”. During the meeting, Professor Mykola Lesiuk was talking about the book creation, he touched upon the activity of the Rus Trinity and its role in the formation and spreading Ukrainian in Galicia, called the authors and linguists who created the Ukrainian grammar, emphasized on the necessity to develop the phonetic spelling, accentuated the role of the clergy in the development of the Ukrainian language and so on. He also mentioned another significant paper “Erotism in the Ukrainian Folklore”.

The presents asked how he had understood the psychological aspects of language, the ways of stopping using the junk words and whether he had been satisfied with the current state of broadcasting on the Ukrainian television and radio etc.

After the meeting, Professor Mykola Lesiuk appealed to the youth to cherish their language culture, to avoid the vulgar vocabulary, and not to distort their names on social networks.

His final words, ‘The Ukrainian language is supposed to be a mistress in her own house one day’ became the leitmotif of the absorbing and useful event.
