Students and professors of Lviv Polytechnic National University manufacture for the military medical dressings, which speed up the healing of wounds. The production technology was patented by the educators.

The dressing is half made of water and has a cooling effect. It is fixed to the hand with a bandage or a patch. Dressings absorb wound fluid, speed up and facilitate the healing of burns.

«You can put there the medicine needed for the treatment of a specific patient – the doctor immerses it in a solution of the necessary medicine and applies it», says Nataliia Nosova, Doctor of Technical Sciences, senior researcher at the Department of Organic Chemistry, the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technologies.

Lviv Polytechnic began to develop hydrogel bandages 15 years ago. They were made on a synthetic basis. A few years ago, Polytechnicians switched to natural components and patented the technology. First of all, the dressings are suitable for burns and bedsores, trophic ulcers and trench foot, which is common on the front line.

«Studies, which have already been conducted by doctors, not by us, claim that the use of our hydrogel bandage accelerates wound healing by 2–3 times. It does not cause re-infection and injury to the wound», adds Nataliia Nosova.

The manufactured dressings are given to volunteer groups, medical institutions, frontline hospitals and paramedics.
