On June 19, 2024, Lviv Polytechnic and the NGO Academy for Heroes signed a cooperation agreement to implement a project to train veterans IT specialties. The signing ceremony took place in the first academic building of the university, at the Veterans Service Center.

The Veterans Service Center at Lviv Polytechnic has been working with veterans, organizing their professional training in various fields, since 2014. The new project provides for more extensive and in-depth courses in IT specialties which will help veterans acquire a new profession and find employment in this field.

The project was initiated by Oleksii Druhov, Professor at the Department of Administrative and Financial Management, who will also be one of the course instructors, Roman Korzh, Vice-Rector for Education and Social Development, Tetiana Shapovalova, Head of the Veterans Service Center, a specialist in supporting veterans and demobilized persons, and the NGO Academy for Heroes.

– Since 2014, we have had a project called Ukraine-Norway, funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Education, thanks to which we train veterans. We created the Center on the basis of people who were engaged in the veterans’ movement and told us exactly and in detail what we should do. Now, to give veterans second education we are actively looking for money, trying not to take from the state budget. The Center is actually bigger than that. It is designed to help you or your children with retraining, dormitories, and the educational process. The training will take place in an informal format: without the usual lectures, boring theoretical principles and homework, but with good practice and employment opportunities, as the participants will be taught by academics who have their own business and good employment. We have already had experience in conducting training in different groups before, so we understand what we need to do and improve. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact us! said Roman Korzh.

– I’ve had the idea to create something like this for a long time, says Oleksii Druhov. I wanted to help people find jobs in IT companies. Later, I found Tetiana Shapovalova and we started to cooperate. There is a large IT company called EveryMatrix which we can visit during our studies. It operates in 13 countries and has a turnover of more than $2 billion. The largest office of this company is located in Lviv, and now they have 25 job offers for IT specialists. This is one of the good options for employment after graduation, because our task and the task of the NGO Academy for Heroes, which is the customer and co-executor of this course, is not just to teach, but to provide participants with jobs.

The course starts on July 1, 2024.
