Today, financial literacy is not an optional competence but a core skill. For this reason, Lviv Polytechnic University hosted the presentation of the women’s course «I Count on Myself. A Financial Skills Development» and took on the role of its ambassador. The course was created by the Projector Foundation and the Kredobank Foundation with the support of the Ministry of Economy and the State Employment Service of Ukraine.
During the opening of the event, Nataliia Shakhovska, the University Rector, emphasized:
«It is important for us not only to train highly qualified specialists in various fields, but also to nurture competent, financially independent women capable of making well-considered decisions. Educational initiatives like this one bridge academic tradition with contemporary challenges, providing participants with practical tools for everyday life».
Registration for the course lasts until 24 September.
The event featured a roundtable discussion on Financial Independence as a Component of Educational and Social Development, which brought together over thirty participants. Among them there were female educators, civil servants, medical workers, business leaders, banking sector representatives, and members of public organizations. The wide range of professions and experiences highlights that financial literacy is a universal skill, vital in every aspect of life.
Head of the Kredobank Foundation Solomiia Hovorukha noted:
«Women make many financial decisions every day, and the well-being of their families depends on it. Over the past 15 years of working in the banking sector, I have become convinced that financial literacy for women is not only about money, but also about self-confidence and self-determination. Today, this is especially relevant – we are all looking for ways to maintain peace of mind, have inner support, and build a future without fear. That is why the Kredobank Foundation joins such educational initiatives to provide tools that work in real life».
The topic was further elaborated by the course author and personal finance expert, Oksana Zheliezko, who provided a detailed explanation of how the course enables participants to apply their knowledge in practice:
«We developed this course so that women feel confident in their financial decisions. It’s not just about numbers – we will also talk about the psychology of money, daily habits that shape our budget, and strategies for planning the future. Financial literacy is not a dry theory, but a practical tool that can change lives for the better».
The participants of the roundtable shared their own stories about emotional purchases, financial stereotypes, and new money management practices. This meeting once again showed that women are taking finances into their own hands, and universities and the educational community are becoming powerful ambassadors for the dissemination of practical knowledge.
Lviv Polytechnic’s involvement in this initiative underscores its leadership in integrating academic education with practical life skills. The university not only trains highly qualified specialists, but also actively contributes to fostering a culture of financial independence, setting an example of responsible educational leadership for all of Ukraine.
